The UC Berkeley Chicanx Latinx Alumni Association – Bay Area is rooted in a long tradition of alumni engagement, advocacy, and service at the University of California, Berkeley.
The Chicanx Latinx alumni community at UC Berkeley formally organized in 1984, originally under the name U.C.B. Raza Alumni Club. The organization was founded by Chicanx Latinx alumni seeking to maintain strong connections to their alma mater while creating space for networking, organizing, mentorship, and stewardship among alumni and students.
This alumni movement grew alongside—and was deeply influenced by—historic campus efforts including the Third World Liberation Front Strike, the Civil Rights movement, anti-Apartheid activism, and ongoing advocacy around undocumented and immigration rights. These movements shaped a lasting commitment to access, equity, and student success at UC Berkeley.
Over time, Chicanx Latinx alumni organizing at UC Berkeley has supported:
alumni professional development
student recruitment and retention
mentorship across generations
philanthropic investment in students
Collectively, alumni efforts have contributed more than $200,000 in scholarships to UC Berkeley Chicanx Latinx students and have supported programs such as:
Yield and New Student Welcome events
Sharing Wisdom Across Generations (SWAG)
Alumni Networking Events
The Bay Area chapter continues to carry forward this legacy of service and student support.
